Av-Comm Relocates 9m Ka-Band CPI ESA from Perth to Portugal

In mid 2024, Av-Comm’s Field Team deployed to Perth to relocated 9m Ka-Band CPI Vertex Earth Station Antenna. The antenna system, installed in Perth, was decommissioned by the experienced Av-Comm contingency, before being meticulously packed up into shipping containers and transported to Portugal. The Av-Comm team created a custom packing arrangement for safe transit, ensuring the dish retains optimal functionality when re-installed on the other end of its journey.

When the dish arrives at the end destination, the SES-managed Sintra Teleport Facility in Portugal, the Av-Comm technicians will perform a comprehensive turnkey installation of the antenna whilst also upgrading the RF systems, including new LNBs, IFL, and new air-cooled amplifiers to replace the legacy water-cooled systems. Av-Comm will also undertake full depot level maintenance program to ensure the upkeep of the antenna, pressure washing the antenna back structure, regrouting it, and giving it a fresh coat of paint.

The completion of this project – earmarked for early 2025 – demonstrates the Av-Comm Field Team’s capability to build, test and maintain complex satellite ground stations across the global.
