Av-Comm services supporting safer air travel around the Pacific

11 October 2022

Av-Comm is supporting safer air travel in the Pacific through the delivery of field engineering, installation, and commissioning services under our Pacific Aviation Investment Program’s (PAIP) Phase 3 contract.

Funded by the World Bank, the program was established to improve aviation infrastructure and to help make air travel to and from the Pacific Islands safer and more efficient. Pacific Island nations are among the most remote in the world, making safe and on-time air travel critical to connecting them to each other and larger overseas markets.

As part of Av-Comm’s contract, we have installed two ground stations in the Solomon Islands at airports in Honiara (the capital) and Munda (a major provincial location for tourism). These ground stations utilise a geostationary satellite in the highly resilient C Band frequency spectrum and will provide vital communications to support air traffic control.

Greater flight access and improved travel conditions will promote tourism and trade for the Pacific Islands, and opens access to jobs, markets and services overseas.

Av-Comm installed similar systems for Phases 1 and 2 of the program in Samoa, Kiribati, Tonga, Tuvalu, Cook Islands, Vanuatu, and Niue.
