Bureau of Meteorology Contracts Av-Comm to Relocate 4.2m Radome and Antenna

In early 2024, Av-Comm was contracted by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) to relocate a 2.4m CPI Orbital Systems antenna system housed within a 4.2m radome.

This job saw Av-Comm technicians disassemble the full antenna structure along with the radome, before transporting them from BOM’s Shoal Bay receiving station to its Middle Point facility, some 50km away. Once arrived at the final destination, the Av-Comm technicians began refurbishment of the radome, before reassembling the antenna with a new XL feed. Once reassembled, the antenna system was then rehoused in its newly refurbished radome.

Despite the work being conducted during the wet season and the project team encountering several period of heavy rain , the our were able to work around these issues and deliver the project.

This successful project highlights Av-Comm’s expertise in Satellite Ground Station and Radomes to Sustain & Maintain these types of critical communications infrastructure. Av-Comm’s team of specialist technicians have been trained to prescribe and provide preventative and corrective maintenance to ensure technical readiness, reduction of system downtime, and to extend the operational life of mission-critical communications.
