C Band TVRO Project – University of Sydney

In September 2014 Av-Comm completed another exciting C Band TVRO project on behalf of the University of Sydney. Av Comm was very pleased to have been chosen through a competitive request for quotation process to carry out the works and would like to thank the University for the opportunity to work with them on this project. The project was particularly interesting for Michael Cratt, the project manager, as recent Masters Graduate of the University of Sydney.

The project consisted of the design, installation, and commissioning of four 1.8m DH Satellite Dishes to provide reception of Asiasat 5, Asiasat 7, Palapa D, and Chinasat 6B. The dishes feed several IRDs that encoded the channels to IP for distribution via multicast stream through the University’s intranet.

The project presented a unique set of challenges as the dishes were to be installed atop the existing air conditioning mezzanine platform. Av Comm engaged our engineering and structural fabrication team to come up with a mounting and bracing solution that utilised as much of the existing infrastructure as possible. After careful planning the mounts, bracing, and satellite dishes were installed over the period of a week with the project formally handed over to the University of Sydney on September 16.
