HimawariCast Project
Av-Comm has been selected as the prefered equipment supplier by the Bureau of Meteorology for the Japanese Meteorological Agency’s (JMA) new weather service project, HimawariCast.
The JMAs new weather service receives raw data via the Himawari-8 satellite located at 140 degrees East in geostationary orbit. The data is then processed and provided via JCSAT 2A (to be replaced by JCSAT 2B in 2016) for downlink at meteorological offices throughout Asia and the Pacific. The HimawariCast service is distributed imagery every 10 minutes providing a significant improvement over the previous weather imagery service that provided imagery approximately every 30 minutes.
Av-Comm will supply two systems to receive and process the HimawariCast service received from JCSAT 2A with Prodelin 2.4m satellite dishes fitted with Norsat 5 kHz C Band LNBs to provide a high performance and robust downlink system. The HimawariCast service is then received and processed using Nova S200 satellite receivers that is then interface with KenCast Fazzt Professional Client software to provide imagery used for weather forecasting.
